Haslett on Meriweather: "Not going to hurt our football team."

Jim Haslett doesn’t believe that safety Brandon Meriweather is going to hurt anyone despite his comments that he would need to go low when making tackles in order to avoid the helmet-to-helmet hits that have gotten him fined and suspended.

Haslett said that he believes that Meriweather “is a good guy”.

“I don’t think he’ll do anything that’s going to harm the football team,” said the Redskins’ defensive coordinator. “He said something out of emotion, the way he felt, and just knowing Brandon, the way he practiced yesterday, he’ll stay within the rules and try to do what’s best.”

“He’s not going to hurt our football team,” Haslett reiterated.

Meriweather talked to reporters on Monday, the day after his one-game suspension for drawing two penalties for illegal hits in the Redskins October 21 game against the Bears.

“To be honest, man, you have to go low now, man,” he said. “You have to end people’s career. You got to tear people’s ACLs and mess up people knees now. You can’t hit them high anymore. You just have to go low.”
