RGIII: It is coach's decision
It’s official: Robert Griffin III will be a spectator Sunday in Atlanta.
The face of the franchise, the star quarterback who only a year ago directed the Redskins to a 10-6 record and the team’s first NFC East title in 13 years, has been relegated to third string duty.
Kirk Cousins will start against the Falcons and will be backed up by Rex Grossman, Coach Mike Shanahan confirmed moments ago. Griffin, meantime, is expected to inactive for the remainder of the season.
Shanahan said he’s simply trying to protect Griffin, who has been exposed to too many punishing hits in recent weeks. Indeed, 24 sacks in five games are way too many.
