London Fletcher confirmed via Twitter Wednesday afternoon that he had surgery earlier in the day and that he intends to work toward returning for a 16th season next fall.

Fletcher’s tweet confirmed a report by Dave Elfin of 106.7 The Fan, who wrote that Fletcher was set to undergo surgery on his balky left ankle. Elfin's report also said Fletcher intends to have surgery on his elbow later this month.
Fletcher’s tweet seemed to put to rest any talk of retirement – at least for now.
In recent weeks, the soon-to-be 38-year-old inside linebacker said he was still “evaluating” whether to play in 2013, while Coach Mike Shanahan said on Redskins Nation, “if you’re thinking about retiring, you’re probably already retired.
Fletcher is under contract for next season and is due to earn a base salary of $5.5 million. And despite his injuries woes – he battled a sprained ankle, strained hamstring and balance issues – the defensive captain led the NFC East champs in tackles (139) and interceptions (5).
