The Redskins maybe didnt deserve to beat the Rams this afternoon but they had a chance until one of the dumbest penalties in recent memory. With the Redskins trailing 31-28 with 1:18 left, Robert Griffin III completed a third-down pass to Josh Morgan. Morgan fought for a few yards and when he went down it was fourth and one at the St. Louis 29. That would have set up about a 46-yard field goal attempt for Billy Cundiff, well within his range. However, Morgan, upset by some rough stuff as he was being tackled, got up and threw the ball at Rams cornerback Courtland Finnegan. That drew a 15-yard flag for unsportsmanlike conduct. That pushed the ball back to the 44.Instead of trying for a miracle on fourth and 16, Mike Shanahan called for a 62-yard field goal try which, given Cundiffs range, also would have been miraculous. The kick was well short and wide right and the Rams were able to run out the clock.I should have just kept my calm, said Morgan in the locker room.
