NFC East roundup: Cowboys corner passing on OTA's

Maybe cornerbacks not showing for OTA's is the latest trend. While we wait on hearing from DeAngelo Hall or Mike Shanahan as to why the Redskins starter missed Monday's fun, seems pretty clear why Cowboys corner and former Pro Bowler Mike Jenkins is expected to miss the start of Cowboys practice session on Tuesday: the2008 first rounder's role as starter is apparently no more.Dallas signed top free agent Brandon Carr to a mega contract this offseason and moved up in the first round to select LSU corner Morris Claiborne. Meanwhile Jenkins, beset by various injuries last season, enters the final year of his contract. Jenkins played through the pain last year and had shoulder surgery during the offseason.Rarely in these parts does someone utter the phrase, "but in fairness to the Cowboys," but in in fairness to the Cowboys, wow was their secondary brutal. Point to Tony Romo's late game gaffes or the offensive line's leaks, but one could legitimately argue the defensive backfield woestruly turned the Cowboys postseason hopes and dreams into ifs and buts.Jerry Jones says he wants to keep Jenkins in the mix, even though he's already paying Orlando Scandrick third corner cash. If the Cowboys part ways, they expect legitimate compensation back for a young corner with skills. Jenkins wants a new deal and his agent is Drew Rosenhaus. Something tells me this side will downplay the recovery from surgery and point to his decorated past. Not sure inquiring teams will. Yeah, this could be interesting... Nick Foles, the NFC East rookie quarterback drafted between Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins, agreed to a four-year deal with Eagles on Monday. The third-round selection is in Philadelphia to battle Mike Kafka and Trent Edwards for the backup role behind the frequently banged up Michael Vick. When you're a team with legitimate playoff aspirations, securing the No. 2 quarterback spot is paramount - and that goes double when the starter is a runner with a lithe frame who constantly takes big hits playing behind a suspect offensive line. The only controversy in Eagles camp regarding the passers will come if Foles somehow flops. Vick's on-field vision allows him to avoid would-be tacklers, but I'm pretty sure the veteran is not paying attention in the least to the competition behind him. Not much news going on with the Giants, but at least any fears of Kellen Winslow solving Big Blue's tight end hole are gone. The Buccaneers shipped the veteran to the Seahawks for a late round pick. Martellus Bennett's chance to shine remains in play.
