Stories emerge from those striving to make roster
RICHMOND—The Redskins released their initial depth chart of the 2013 season today and there were few surprises. And that’s not surprising.
The team returned 21 of 22 starters from last year and all of them are listed as starters for this year. The one spot without an incumbent starter is free safety and rookie Bacarri Rambo is listed as the starter there. The sixth-round draft pick lined up with the first team the first practice on the first day of training camp and he hasn’t left.
The Redskins’ other draft picks are further back in the chart. Cornerback David Amerson, the team’s top draft pick (2nd round) is listed as the second-team right cornerback. Strong safety Phillip Thomas (4th) and left outside linebacker Brandon Jenkins (5th) are on the third team while running backs Chris Thompson (5th) and Jawan Jamison (7th), and tight end Jordan Reed (3rd) are further back.
Some veterans who were on the team last year who might be on the bubble due to being on the third team are free safety Jordan Pugh, running back Evan Royster and offensive linemen Maurice Hurt (who has been on the PUP list since the start of camp).
This is just the first look at the chart and a lot can change between now and the season opener five weeks from today. But the didn’t pick the names on the chart out of a hat and the players who are listed as starters are likely to have to get knocked out to lose their starting jobs.
