With the Bengals knocked out of the playoffs at the hands of Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers, Cincinnati assistant coaches will be free to interview for the Redskins head coach vacancy. Depending on what you choose to listen to, both offensive coordinator Jay Gruden and defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer are serious candidates.

Who is the better choice for the Skins? Gruden has the more famous name, thanks to his brother Jon and a starring role in last season's HBO documentary Hard Knocks. Looking at the Bengals offense, Gruden's unit moves the ball well at about 370 yards per game. The Bengals passing game ranks in the Top 10 in the NFL, and Gruden has made quarterback Andy Dalton a valuable player, despite a poor performance in the AFC Wild Card Game.

Statistically, Zimmer is the more impressive head coaching candidate. The Bengals defense ranked No. 4 overall and had a fierce pass rush and strong run defense. Zimmer may also benefit from the tutelage Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis, a defensive mind.

Both coaches are likely to meet with the Redskins brass, but who do you think is the better candidate for Washington? Gruden to work with RG3? Zimmer to fix a broken defense? Let us know in the comments.
