Your Friday morning open thread:
Normally, we try to keep the conversation here focused on the Redskins. But after watching Peyton Manning and the Broncos dismantle the defending champion Ravens, we’re going to make an exception.
Let’s talk Super Bowl favorites.
The Broncos entered the game as the popular pick to win it all. Now, after watching Manning hang 49 points on the Ravens, I’m starting to become a believer.
A few of the statistical highlights:
- Manning tossed an NFL record-tying seven touchdown passes while helping Denver amass 510 yards.
- The 49 points scored by the Broncos were the most ever allowed by Baltimore, which suffered the worst loss in an opener by a defending champ in league history.
- The Broncos defense, without Von Miller and Champ Bailey, sacked Joe Flacco four times and picked him off twice.
The prognosticators say the Seahawks, Packers, 49ers, Falcons and Patriots have a good shot at going the distance, too. But I’m not sure anyone is going to have an answer for a rejuvenated Manning and the ridiculously deep Broncos.
