Your Tuesday morning open thread:

Today’s topic is a pretty straightforward one. After directing the Redskins to a 10-6 record and the NFC East title last season, should the Redskins give Mike Shanahan a contract extension now or should the team wait until after the 2013 season before making a decision?

Shanahan, 60, signed a five-year deal in 2010 that is believed to be worth about $7 million a year. That means the veteran coach is entering the fourth year of his pact.

The Washington Post reported in December that ownership was “seriously considering” extending Shanahan this offseason. But there has been no news of significance on that front since.

In three seasons, Shanahan is 21-27 in Washington with one playoff appearance but has built a solid core that boasts some of the best young talent in the NFL.
