Your Wednesday morning open thread:

The 4-3 Chargers have to travel cross country for a 1 p.m. kickoff, but they are also coming off a bye. What worries you most about the matchup?

  • Quarterback Philip Rivers, who is enjoying a resurgence under new head coach Mike McCoy? After a down year in 2012, the 31-year-old Rivers leads the league in completion percentage (73.9) and is sixth in yards per game (305) and tied for sixth in touchdowns (15).
  • Eight time Pro Bowl tight end Antonio Gates? Although he has only two touchdowns, his 42 receptions ranks second among tight ends and his 71 yards per game ranks fourth at his position.
  • The Chargers’ sum-of-its-parts defense? The unit doesn’t boast star players or top-of-the-league stats. It just gets the job done. The past two games, in fact, it has limited Andrew Luck and the Colts and the Jaguars to single digit outputs—9 and 6 points, respectively.

I’m going with Gates. Along with Rivers, he’s also revitalized this year and is on pace for his first 1,000 yard season since 2009. And at 6-4, he’s going to create some matchup problems.
