Count Brian Orakpo among those who would like to see Robert Griffin III get to work at Redskins Park sooner rather than later.

But, unlike some, the veteran outside linebacker said hes not overly concerned about Griffins absence from rookie camp.

Yet, that is.

Its a rookie camp, Orakpo said Tuesday at his second annual youth football camp in Fairfax. Hes fine.

But Orakpo did acknowledge that the stalemate between Griffin and the Redskins could become a problem if it lingers into next week. Main camp opens July 26.

Although Griffin is working out locally, he cannot report to the teams facility in Ashburn until he signs a contract, which is being held up as the sides continue to haggle over offset language.

If he misses a couple of days, Orakpo added, presumably referring to main camp, we obviously dont want that to happen. But I doubt that will.

Whenever Griffin does arrive, though, hell have some fans on the defensive side of the ball, Orakpo said. Last season, the Redskins offense lacked a big-play threat and, as a result, scored an average of 18 points per game, which ranked 26th in the league.

Obviously Griffin is a great player, an added bonus to our team, Orakpo said. Hes going to really help that offense get going on all cylinders by making big plays down field and even making plays on his feet when needed. Im very excited because I know what theyre capable of doing.

Our whole defense is excited, he added with a smile, because when theyre scoring points, were off the field.
