Shanahan says you can learn a lot when players play for pride
Redskins’ linebacker Brian Orakpo will be listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Giants, Coach Mike Shanahan said Friday.
Orakpo, who has been battling a groin muscle strain that he suffered against the Cowboys, said he was limited in practice. He was not able to practice at all on Thursday.
“I feel better,” he said. “I want to wait until game day to see how I feel. I’ll wait until Sunday [to] give myself another day-and-a-half, two days to see if I’ll be able to go or not.”
Orakpo said he’ll pack his equipment bag as though he’ll play. But he also plans to be “realistic with the situation.”
“I’ll be packing my bag just if something miraculous happens and I’m able to go,” Orakpo said. “If it’s not where I want it to be, if it’s not healthy, then I’m not going to play. But if it is, then I’m going to be out there with my teammates for the final game.”
Orakpo said he never considered shutting himself down because of the team’s 3-12 record or the fact that he’s a pending unrestricted free agent and potentially in line for a big contract.
“That’s not me,” Orakpo said. “That’s not my M.O. I’ve been getting treatment every day.”
