Although the Redskins are spectators in this year’s NFL playoffs, we know you’ll still be watching. So let’s have some fun predicting the outcomes, shall we? Here’s how Redskins Insiders Tarik El-Bashir and Rich Tandler see the games unfolding:
Colts at Patriots
Saturday 8:15, CBS
Patriots by 7
Tandler: It’s the old guard in Tom Brady vs. the new guard in Andrew Luck. Will the torch be passed to the new generation? I’m not sure that the change will be all that monumental but I am calling for the upset here. The Patriots have been getting it done with smoke and mirrors on offense all year and I get the feeling that their magic is about to run out. It doesn’t help that their injury-ravaged defense (ranked 26th) has had trouble stopping teams. But Bill Belichick will find a way to do what the Chiefs couldn’t do, contain receiver T. Y. Hilton. It won’t matter though. Luck is wise well beyond his age and experience and he will find a way to get it done. Colts 24, Patriots 21
El-Bashir: Last week Andrew Luck and the Colts were as good as they were lucky in one of the wildest playoff games in NFL history. That’s not happening again, and here’s why: They allowed 44 points (!) to Alex Smith and a Chiefs’ team that lost its most dangerous weapon, Jamaal Charles, to a concussion after only three carries. What do you think Tom Brady and the Patriots’ high scoring offense (27.8 points per game, 3rd) will do to a middle-of-the-pack Colts’ defense (especially after getting two weeks to rest up and prepare)? One more thing: The Pats are 8-0 at Foxboro this season and 14-4 all-time in the postseason at home, where there’s a 100-percent chance of chilly, steady rain Saturday night. Gimme the battle-tested Pats, please. Patriots 35, Colts 21.
