Predicting the Redskins' season

Predicting the Redskins' season
April 18, 2012, 9:55 am

It is difficult to predict the outcome of an NFL game a day before it happens. It is sheer folly to try to foresee the outcome months before kickoff. But folly and futility never stop Rich Tandler. Even though youre probably going to want to watch the Redskins 2012 season anyway, here is what the results are going to be.Sept. 9 @ Saints--The Redskins will face the first interim interim coach in NFL history as Joe Vitt, filling in for the suspended Sean Payton, will serve a six-game suspension to start the season. Robert Griffin III will be game in his NFL debut but he wont out duel Drew Brees. Saints 31, Redskins 21 (Redskins 0-1)Sept. 16 @ Rams--So the Rams decided to stick with Sam Bradford and bypass RG3s potential. Well see who the early winner is in that decision. Griffin starts to think the game is easy as he plays his second straight game against the defense that finished in the bottom third in 2011. Redskins 28, Rams 20 (1-1)Sept. 23 Bengals--The last time the Redskins played Cincinnati in 2008, they lost to the 1-11-1 Bengals and Jim Zorn declared himself to be the worst coach in America. Nobody argued with him. Losing to Cincy this time around, after they qualified for the playoffs last year, wouldnt make Mike Shanahan Americas worst but he certainly wants to avoid it. Redskins 28, Bengals 21 (2-1)Sept. 30 @ Bucs--Raheem Morris will have his secondary focused in his return to the place that fired him and then decided that actually spending money on players is a good idea. They now have some good players but will they have a team? Redskins 35, Bucs 24 (3-1)Oct. 7 Falcons--One of the better regular-season teams of the last few years has lost a few key players but they should keep on rolling. This will be a big test for the Redskins as they try to show that they can beat good teams at home. Theyre not quite ready. Falcons 20, Redskins 17 (3-2)Oct. 14 Vikings--The Redskins have had some embarrassing losses since Shanahan has been here but none was worse than last years Week 16 loss to the 2-12 Vikings at FedEx. This will be the third time in three years Minnesota has come to FedEx, maybe it will be a charm. Redskins 21, Vikings 10 (4-2)Oct. 21 @ Giants--Was the Redskins 2011 sweep of the Giants a fluke or a sign of better times? After this game it will look like it was sheer happenstance. Giants 28, Redskins 10 (4-3)Oct. 28 @ Steelers--The Redskins last faced Pittsburgh in front of a hostile crowd in 2008 and the Steelers won. At least this time around the crowd wont be at FedEx Field. Steelers 24, Redskins 20 (4-4)Nov. 4 Panthers--The last two Heisman Trophy winners, Cam Newton and RG3, match up in one of the more entertaining games of the season. The Redskins had owned the Panthers prior to their loss in Charlotte last year, can they return to their former dominance? Redskins 31, Panthers 28 (5-4)Nov. 11 Bye--No jokes about the bye being a three-point favorite.Nov. 18 Eagles--Its Vick vs. RG3 but the key will be if the Redskins offensive line can give Griffin time to operate against a Philly defense that should have its act together after the Dream Team couldnt make it happen after being slapped together last August. Eagles 24, Redskins 10 (5-5)Nov. 22 @ Cowboys--Can Robert Griffin III do what Jim Ninowski, Billy Kilmer, Joe Theismann, Mark Rypien, Gus Frerotte, and Danny Wuerffel were unable to do and lead the Redskins to a Thanksgiving Day win in Dallas? Just a gut feeling here. Redskins 28, Cowboys 24 (6-5)Dec. 3 Giants--After a mini bye week with 10 days off, the Redskins will be fired up going into this Monday night game. The Giants will be too much for them, however. Giants 24, Redskins 14 (6-6)Dec. 9 Ravens--Joe Flacco probably didnt even believe himself when he said that he was the best QB in the league, but he wins games. The Ravens defense is a big reason why and they will provide the sternest test yet for RG3. Ravens 20, Redskins 13 (6-7)Dec. 16 @ Browns--Mike Holmgren thinks that his team got screwed when they lost to the Redskins in the bidding for the Rams second overall pick. But Holmgren wont be playing and RG3, the player taken with that pick, will be. Redskins 24, Browns 10 (7-7)Dec. 23 @Eagles--The Vet. The Linc. It doesnt matter. The Redskins just dont have much luck when they play in Philly. Eagles 21, Redskins 13 (7-8)Dec. 30 Cowboys--The Redskins coulda shoulda woulda beaten Dallas twice last year with Rex at the helm. Will RG3 push them past their rivals and deny the Cowboys a playoff spot? This time, yes. Redskins 31, Cowboys 24 (8-8)Rich Tandler blogs about the Redskins at www.RealRedskins.com.
