In addition to firing head coach Mike Shanahan on Monday, the Redskins also parted ways with eight other assistants.
Among them were offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan and special teams coordinator Keith Burns. Position coaches Matt LaFleur (quarterbacks), Mike McDaniel (wide receivers) and Bob Slowik (linebackers) were also let go, as were Richmond Flowers (coaching assistant) and Bobby Slowik (defensive assistant). Advance scout Larry Coyer was also dismissed.
Meantime, defensive coordinator Jim Haslett was retained along with defensive backs coach Raheem Morris, tight ends coach Sean McVay, running backs coach Bobby Turner, defensive line coach Jacob Burney, offensive line coach Chris Foerster, among others.
They will continue in their positions only if the next head coach chooses to include them on his staff, general manager Bruce Allen said.
“The other coaches will depend on the next head coach—if they fit into the schemes and the system that the new head coach wants to implement,” Allen said. “Later today I’m going to meet with a couple more of our staff members and we’re going to start to formalize the coaching search.”
