Art Briles opts for Baylor over Redskins

There was some coming and going on the coaching search scene in the last 24 hours. You can cross Art Briles and Bill Cowher off of the list of potential coaches. Nobody is quite sure if they were ever on that list but they both removed themselves from consideration yesterday.

But as those two exited picture, two others entered.

One name we know is in the pool of possibilities is Cowboys special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia. The Redskins confirmed that they interviewed him yesterday at Redskins Park. He hasn’t been among the usual suspects whose names are being bandied about on the coaching carousel but Allen used to work with him in Tampa Bay and thought he was worth talking to.

The other name has been talked about as a head coaching candidate for years. Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports tweeted the following.

Zimmer has received at least 11 head coaching interviews to date and, obviously, he has yet to land one of the jobs. It’s been said that his style is too bold and perhaps a bit gruff. Allen might find out next week if his style could work for this Redskins team.

Status of known candidates as of 9 a.m. (according to multiple media reports unless otherwise indicated):

Darrell Bevell, Seahawks offensive coordinator—Interview conducted Tuesday, December 31

Sean McDermott, Panthers defensive coordinator—Interview scheduled for this Saturday, January 4

Jim Caldwell, Ravens offensive coordinator—Interviewed on Wednesday Jan. 1 per Adam Schefter

Perry Fewell, Giants defensive coordinator—Interview date TBD

Rich Bisaccia, Cowboys special teams coordinator—Interviewed on Friday, Jan. 3, confirmed by the Redskins
