Redskins tight end Fred Davis was arrested Thursday and charged with DUI, a Fairfax County Police spokesperson confirmed to CSNWashington.com.

Davis was stopped at the corner of Leesburg Pike and Gallows Road around 4 p.m. and taken into custody. The spokesperson said that no further details are available at this time.

Davis’ arrest comes one day after he was suspended indefinitely by the NFL for violating the league’s policy and program for substances of abuse. Davis later said in a statement released by the NFLPA that the positive test was triggered by a banned substance contained in a supplement, not marijuana.

Davis was previously suspended for four games by the NFL in 2011 for repeated failed drug tests.

Davis, 28, just completed his sixth season with the Redskins. He was inactive for five contests after landing in former head coach Mike Shanahan’s doghouse and finished with only seven catches for 40 yards and a touchdown.

He’ll become an unrestricted free agent next month.

A Redskins spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
