With the Redskins season over, CSN Washington will examine free agents from playoff rosters that could make an impact for Washington.
Who: 49ers vs. Panthers
When: Sunday, January 12, 1:05, FOX
Last week we look at the 49ers prospective free agents so let’s see what the Panthers might have that could help the Redskins.
They could use a returner and Ted Ginn Jr. is a pretty good one. He hasn’t scored a return touchdown since the 2011 season but he averaged a very respectable 12.2 yards/punt return and 23.8 on kickoffs. Ginn also had a pretty good year as a receiver with 36 catches for 556 yards (15.4 avg/catch) and five touchdowns.
Ginn’s five TD’s tied for the team led with another player who is slated to be a free agent, Brandon LaFell. He has been a steady contributor with at least 600 receiving yards in each of the last three seasons. The 27-year-old LaFell doesn’t have the return ability that Ginn possesses but he is younger (Ginn will be 29 before the season starts) and cold be a solid third or fourth receiver in Washington.
The Panthers’ second-ranked defense features free agent end Greg Hardy, who had 15 sacks this season. At age 25, he is going to be a very valuable player. But if the Redskins stick to the 3-4 they wouldn’t have a spot for him even if they could afford him. If the Panthers don’t franchise him he will get one of the biggest contracts of 2014.
