Malcolm Blacken has returned to the Redskins as director of player development, the team announced Wednesday afternoon.

Blacken served as the Redskins’ strength and conditioning coach from 1996-2000 and again in 2010. The Virginia native and former Virginia Tech running back held the same position with the Lions from 2001-2009 and the University of Colorado from 2010-11.

Blacken replaces Phillip Daniels, who left the Redskins last month to pursue a coaching opportunity elsewhere.

In his new position, Blacken will aid Redskins players in a variety of ways, including life skills, financial education and managing off-the-field issues.
