A week before the Redskins' opener against the Eagles, safety Brandon Meriweather’s availability remains in some doubt, Coach Mike Shanahan said.
Meriweather has been attempting to work his way back from surgery on his right ACL. Now, he’s also battling a "tight" groin muscle after making his preseason debut in Tampa on Thursday night.
The 29-year-old did not practice Monday, Shanahan said.
Asked if Meriweather will suit up Week 1, Shanahan replied, “I really don’t know.”
“He was a little sore today” the coach added. “His groin was a still little bit tight. He did not practice today. I’ll tell you more throughout the week.”
If Meriweather cannot play, that would likely put reserve Reed Doughty at strong safety and rookie Bacarri Rambo at free safety against Michael Vick and the Eagles.
