Florio: "Need a coach who truly wants RG3"
With the Redskins’ 2013 season now over, CSNWashington.com will be keeping an eye on the upcoming college bowl games and the NFL prospects who could be on Washington’s radar in 2014 draft.
What: Heart of Dallas Bowl
Who: North Texas vs. UNLV
When: Wednesday, January 1, noon, ESPNU
Players to watch:
Are the Redskins set at running back? Certainly Alfred Morris will lead the way no matter who is coaching and a role can be found for Roy Helu but it’s pretty easy to see a new regime bringing in competition for Evan Royster and Chris Thompson late in the draft. UNLV running back Tim Cornett over 2,700 yards from scrimmage over the last two seasons and scored 15 touchdowns in 2013 alone.

It’s hard to justify spending a draft pick on a guy who is likely to be just a return man but if any team can claim a need there it’s the Redskins. Actually, they might be able to wait until after the draft to look at Brelan Chancellor. He’s a wide receiver but at his size (5-9) he is unlikely to make much impact there. But he was named the Conference USA special teams player of the year by finishing in the top 10 nationally in both kickoff returns (28.1-yards average) and punt returns (16.8).
