Mike Shanahan on Kyle's future, Dallas week
With the Redskins’ 2013 season winding down, CSNWashington.com will be keeping an eye on the upcoming college bowl games and the NFL prospects who could be on Washington’s radar in 2014 draft.
What: Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl
Who: Fresno State vs. USC
When: Saturday Dec. 21, 3:30 pm, ABC
Players to watch:
The Redskins have been searching for solid players at safety ever since Sean Taylor died in 2007. All-Mountain West safety Derron Smith of Fresno State could be an answer. He displayed his skills as a ball hawk with six interceptions and he flashed in the box as well with four sacks and seven tackles for a loss. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Smith is a junior who has filed paperwork with the NFL Draft Advisory Board to gauge his draft status. He could be a second-day pick if he comes out.
Inside linebacker Hayes Pullard is one of the key members of the Trojans’ defense. Pullard (6-feet-1, 235 lb.) has good fundamentals when it comes to shedding blocks and making tackles in the run game. His coverage skills are excellent and they will be on display all day long against the Bulldogs’ spread offense. London Fletcher’s retirement creates a need here and Pullard is currently projected to be a second-round pick.
