Backup running back Evan Royster will be placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury, Coach Mike Shanahan said Monday.
The move creates a vacancy on the 53-man roster.
“We haven’t made a decision yet who we’re going to bring up," Shanahan said, hinting that it’s possible a player will be signed off of the practice squad.
Royster was injured in the second quarter after he hauled in a pass. As he was getting tackled by Derrick Johnson, Royster’s left leg got twisted awkwardly underneath him. The injury was announced as a high ankle sprain.
“Evan Royster will be out for the season,” Shanahan said. “Unfortunately, his injury will be more than three weeks.”
Royster had two carries and one catch this season. He also played special teams.
