With Leonard Hankerson sidelined for the season after undergoing knee surgery on Thursday, the Redskins have signed wide receiver Lance Lewis from the practice squad, the team announced.
Hankerson, meantime, has been placed on injured reserve, ending his season.
Lewis, 24, left East Carolina University as the school’s all-time leader in touchdowns (22). He was third in receptions (149) and fifth in receiving yards (1,716). An undrafted free agent, Lewis (6-2, 207) has never appeared in a regular season NFL game.
“It was happiness, but at the same time, you have to get right back to work,” Lewis said. “It was about 10 minutes of being happy, then it was, ‘It’s a work day.’”
Wide receiver Josh Bellamy (Louisville) was signed to the Redskins’ practice squad. He’ll take the spot vacated by Lewis.
