The Redskins have reportedly interviewed Jets special teams coordinator Ben Kotwica for the same position in Washington, according to the New York Daily News.

The Redskins fired Keith Burns last month after one disastrous season. Kotwica’s interview took place Tuesday.

Kotwica just completed his first season as the Jets’ special teams coordinator. He is not under contract for 2014, according to the NYDN report, but has been offered an extension by the Jets. Before that being promoted to coordinator, he was a quality control coach on defense and special teams with the Jets.

The Jets hovered around middle-of-the-pack in many special teams categories last season (they were 16th in punt return average and 18th on kickoffs). They also did not return a punt or kickoff for a touchdown for the first time since 2001.

Kotwica played football at Army and is a decorated helicopter pilot who logged more 1,000 combat hours in Iraq during Operation Freedom II. Kotwica also interviewed for the Army head coaching job but was not offered the job.
