RGIII: It is coach's decision
Robert Griffin III didn’t appear to be happy about Mike Shanahan’s decision to bench him for the remainder of the season but he took the high road during his Wednesday press conference in front of a packed media room at Redskins Park.
“It’s a coach’s decision, it always has been,” he said.
He sat out the last quarter of Sunday’s blowout loss to the Chiefs and watched backup Kirk Cousins play. But after the game he said that his status as the starter at quarterback this Sunday in Atlanta was “not an issue.”
That changed on Monday when Shanahan said that he was considering benching Griffin, who has been sacked 24 times in the last five games, to ensure that he remains healthy for the offseason training program this coming year.
And today Griffin was informed that he would be shut down for the rest of the season.
"I thought it was just another normal week, turns out it's not that way"
He did express a desire to finish off the season with his teammates. But he knows there is nothing he can do to change it.
“My parents have taught me to respect authority,” he said.
Griffin said that he will be helping Cousins as best he can.
“He’ll do a good job,” said Griffin. “I’ll be with him every step of the way.”
