The Robert Griffin III Era in Washington can now officially begin. The Redskins first round draft pick signed his rookie contract today, clearing the way for Griffin to participate in rookie camp, which began Monday at Redskins Park. Veteran players report to Ashburn July 25.Griffin announced the signing via Twitter.@RGIII: Well people....It's Time to go to Work!!! Off the unemployment line and oh yea HTTR!!!!(Update: The Redskins have confirmed that he has signed via the team's Twitter feed.)Without a signed contract, Griffin could not attend the first two days of the weeklong camp, which consists of classroom, conditioning and no-contact drills.According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk the contract is for four years and 21,119,098 and is fully guaranteed. He will get a signing bonus of 13,799,344.Florio also is reporting that there is not offset language in the contract, meaning that in the highly unlikely event they should release him before the contract is up the Redskins would owe him the full amount of the contract regardless of how much another team might pay him. According to multiple reports the offset language was the main holdup in getting a deal done.In recent days, Griffin said he was confident that a deal would get hammered out.The only time Im going to get nervous is if Im not signed by the time main camp comes, Griffin told ESPN980 on Wednesday. Im not nervous about it. Im not going to lose sleep over it. I know the people around me and I know the Skins want to get it done, so well get the contract signed.Griffin is the first player drafted in the top eight spots to sign his rookie deal. The likely holdup for those players is the same salary cap-related issue that is believed to have delayed Griffins arrival offset language. Although rookie deals for top draftees are essentially set by the CBA, teams want any unpaid guaranteed money owed to that player to be offset by whatever money he might earn from another club if hes cut before the four-year pact expires. Its unclear how the Redskins and Griffins agent, Ben Dogra, resolved the offset language issue. But its likely few fans care.Griffin, the player many expect to lead an eventual turnaround of the moribund franchise, is officially a Redskins and ready to report for his first day on the job.
