RG3 on his mindset post ACL surgery
RICHMOND—The fans and media who come to Richmond to see the Redskins practice will get a good dose of the team’s main attraction, quarterback Robert Griffin III.
“I’m going to have the opportunity to throw to everyone,” Griffin said during a news conference on the eve of the start of training camp. “I’ll do everything in practice except for team sessions.”
He said that he will participate in 7 on 7 passing drills and in the morning walkthrough sessions.
The “team sessions” are the 11 on 11 drills. While quarterbacks wear yellow jerseys during practice to remind defenders that they are not supposed to get hit, sometimes accidents will happen. They want to preclude that possibility for Griffin, at least in the early going.
“Coach wants to ease me in that way so that I’m not going from not practicing during the OTAs to having guys running at you,” he said.
Griffin also said that he would not play in preseason games “unless it’s a necessity.” Both Griffin and Mike Shanahan said last month that he would not have to play in a preseason game in order to start in Week 1 against the Eagles.
Griffin was confident that he will be ready eve with some of his preparation being limited.
“When it’s time to go full go, I’ll be ready to go,” he said.
