2 Minute Drill: Redskins vs Eagles preview
The Eagles got the Redskins 2013 season off to a bad start with a 33-27 win in the season opener at FedEx Field. The game was not nearly a competitive as the final score indicates.
The Redskins’ rematch with their NFC East rivals takes place on Sunday but according to their quarterback and head coach, the Redskins aren’t looking for revenge.
“We want to get back at everybody,” said Mike Shanahan when asked if the Redskins would be looking for some payback. “We want to win each week. It’s a very important game because it’s a division game.”
Shanahan said that any time you can get a division win, especially on the road, it’s big and incentive enough to play hard.
“You don't have revenge games, at least I don't,” said Robert Griffin III. “I can't speak for everybody. I don't look at it that way, there's nothing to prove from Week 1. We need this game, our team needs this game. It's not just about me or any personal vendetta you might have . . . The only battle I've got to fight right now is helping this team get to 4-6 and that's all I've got on my mind.”
Teams are generally reluctant to speak in terms of being out for revenge. If they get extra motivated to get back at one team then they won’t feel like they are giving their best for the other games. Still, it wouldn’t be surprising if Shanahan and Griffin burn a little extra midnight oil this week to make sure they are ready to try to avoid another loss to the team from up I-95.
