Shanahan: assessing RG3's injury day-by-day

Mike Shanahan does not plan on holding back on Robert Griffin III when the quarterback is cleared to play.

“If the doctors give their OK, he’s going to play,” said Shanahan of the rookie quarterback who sat out Sunday’s win over the Browns with a knee injury.

The Redskins’ next game is against the Eagles on Sunday. If they win their next two games, the will be in the playoffs as NFC East division champions.

There was some thought that the Redskins might give Griffin some extra time to heal in light of the strong performance by backup quarterback Kirk Cousins. The team’s fourth-round draft pick completed 26 of 37 passes for 329 yards and two touchdowns in the Redskins 38-21 win.

But Shanahan said that Griffin will be the quarterback when he can be. “We’re going to play Robert when he’s 100 percent,” he said.

After Sunday’s game, Griffin said that he thought he could have played but the team, in consultation with doctors, decided to hold him out.
