RICHMOND—Redskins running back Chris Thompson said Friday that he expects to get his first action of the preseason Monday night against the Steelers.
“I’ve been feeling really, really, really good these last couple of days,” said Thompson, who is recovering from ACL surgery. “Even the coaches have been coming up, telling me they can [see] I’m running a lot more confident and feeling a lot more comfortable out there.”
Thompson did not play against the Titans in the exhibition opener. He’s among five tailbacks competing for two, maybe three, jobs behind unquestioned starter Alfred Morris.
“I will be playing Monday night,” Thompson said. “I’m more excited than nervous, just having the opportunity to play again after having two season-ending injuries in college, just to be drafted and even given this opportunity.”
Thompson’s roommate in Richmond was fellow rookie and former Florida State linebacker Brandon Jenkins.
“The past couple of days ... I’ll just look over at him and be like, ‘Man, can you believe we’re here right now?” Thompson said. “This is what we’ve all been dreaming for since we were little kids.”
