Everyone is familiar with the Redskins’ stars, players like Robert Griffin III, Alfred Morris and Brian Orakpo. But who are the blue-collar guys that don’t get enough recognition? Over the next week, reported Tarik El-Bashir will take a look at five Redskins who fly under the radar.
Name/Age: Kedric Golston/30
Position/experience: DE/9 years
Contract status: Signed through 2015
Why he’s notable: Although Golston hasn’t been a full-time starter since 2010, he’s one of the team’s most important backups.
For example, when Jarvis Jenkins was suspended the first four games last season, the coaching staff didn't hesitate to insert him into the starting lineup. In all, Golston started eight games in 2013, making six starts at left end and two at right end.
Against the Raiders, Golston made a season-high four tackles. He also contributes on special teams.
Off the field, Golston sets an example for the younger players with his meticulous preparation and work ethic. Add to that his versatility and ability start in a pinch, and you've got an idea why coaches like having him around.
