Everyone is familiar with the Redskins’ stars, players like Robert Griffin III, Alfred Morris and Brian Orakpo. But who are the blue-collar guys that don’t get enough recognition? Over the next week, reported Tarik El-Bashir will take a look at five Redskins who fly under the radar.
Name/Age: Josh Hull/26
Contract status: Signed through 2014
Why he’s notable: After a disastrous start on special teams that included losing coverage ace Bryan Kehl to a knee injury, the Redskins signed Hull in mid-October.
A hard-running, hard-hitting load of a linebacker at 6-3, 245-pounds, Hull ended up making 14 combined tackles on special teams. That’s right, despite appearing in only 11 games, Hull ended up leading the Redskins -- and ranking 11th (tied) in the NFL -- in that category.
Hull’s best performance came in the regular season finale when made four combined tackles, including a tackle for a six-yard loss on Giants punt returner Jayron Hosley.
Hull played only one snap at linebacker all season, however. It will be interesting to see if he’s able to impress the new coaching staff earn more playing time on defense. He may need to ensure a spot on the 53-man roster in 2014.
