Normally we will hold off on reporting that a given hire has been made when the information comes from a tweet from someone who is not a journalist. However, we will make an exception with this one:
Great hire by Redskins= Wes Phillips from proud Dad— Wade Phillips (@sonofbum) January 17, 2014
Wade Phillips, the longtime NFL coach and son of former Oilers head coach Bum Phillips (thus the Twitter handle) is the father of Wes Phillips, who interviewed to be the Redskins' tight ends coach on Thursday. It appears that the interview went well and that the younger Phillips will be joining the Redskins' staff to replace Sean McVay, who was promoted to offensive coordinator.
Phillips has been an NFL coach for five seasons in a variety of positions most recently as the Cowboys' tight ends coach. His contract had expired so he was free to make the lateral move to the Redskins.
Update: Not that you needed to hear this after that pretty solid source said it but multiple media reports have confirmed that Wes Phillips is indeed the Redskins' new tight ends coach.
