Remember how everyone thought it would be great for Nicklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin to play on the same line together with Moscow Dynamo?
How the arrival of the slick-passing Backstrom would rekindle Ovi’s scoring flame?
Well, today in Russia [or last night if you were in Russia] it was Ovechkin helping Backstrom record his first KHL hat trick in Dynamo Moscow’s 4-3 win over Vityaz Chekhov.
Backstrom, who ditched his old No. 99 for a more conventional No. 69, scored his first goal of the game off an Ovechkin assist. He later netted two more goals, including the game-winner in overtime.
Backstrom logged more than 22 minutes of ice time in Dynamo’s win, which came after an 11-day break for the Karjala Cup tournament in Finland. Ovechkin, who sat out the previous three games with an illness, finished with nine shots in more than 27 minutes of action.
