Capitals forward prospect Riley Barber [Miami-Ohio] scored a third-period goal and prospects Thomas DiPauli and Connor Carrick picked up assists to help Team USA to a 6-3 win over Slovakia Saturday in the World Junior Championships in Malmo, Sweden.
Barber also scored a power-play goal in the Americans’ 5-1 win over the Czech Republic on Thursday. Carrick, who began the season on the Capitals roster and played three NHL games before being sent to Hershey of the AHL, also earned an assist in Thursday’s win over the Czech Republic. DiPauli [Notre Dame] also picked up an assist and was a plus-2 in the win over the Czechs.
In Sweden’s 5-3 win over Switzerland on Thursday Caps forward prospect Andre Burakovsky set up Caps defensive prospect Christian Djoos for his first goal of the tournament. Sweden followed that win with a 4-2 victory over Finland on Saturday.
The World Juniors continue through Jan. 5.
