Please forgive Capitals right wing Troy Brouwer if he’s not completely up to date on every detail of the NHL’s negotiations on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The guy is a little short on sleep these days.

Last weekend, Brouwer’s wife, Carmen, gave birth to the couple’s first child, a baby girl named Kylie Marie. Brouwer, who has been skating with former Blackhawks teammates in Chicago, said mom and baby came home from the hospital on Tuesday night and are doing fine.

“It’s fun,” Brouwer, 27, told CSNChicago.com. “The whole process has been great. We love her to death already. We’re excited for the journey we’re about to go on.”

Former teammate Patrick Sharp whose wife gave birth to a baby girl last December, offered a few words of advice for the new father.

“He said you’ll look at girls differently now and it’s definitely true,” Brouwer said. “You look ahead and get nervous.”

As for when he thinks he’ll be playing hockey again in D.C., Brouwer said he believes there is a deal to be made between the owners and players.

“I think it is possible as long as both sides are wiling to negotiate, stay civil and make sure the best interests of both sides are in play. We don’t want to be in this position in the next couple years. We want to make sure it’s a profitable industry moving forward.”
