Nothing like welcoming a baby boy into the world two days before playing in the biggest game of your life.
Capitals rookie goaltender Braden Holtby, 22, and his fiance, Brandi Bodnar, became the parents of a baby boy named Benjamin Hunter Holtby earlier today, a club spokesman confirmed.
No word yet on whether the babys middle name is in honor of the Capitals head coach, Dale Hunter, who named Holtby his starting goalie for the playoffs after Tomas Vokoun and Michal Neuvirth were sidelined by injury.
The timing could not have been more perfect for Holtby. The Capitals were given the day off on Thursday and are scheduled to report to Kettler Capitals Iceplex for practice on Friday morning.
Holtby stopped 30 of 31 shots Wednesday night to earn his seventh playoff victory and extend his streak of not losing back-to-back NHL games to 29. The Caps are now 6-0 in the post-season after losses.
Its a big one, Holtby said of the victory. I think we earned it in a way that is going to benefit us in the long run. We played a very solid team game. Very gutsy effort and we got rewarded tonight.
