The Capitals released their eight-game preseason schedule today, which includes four games at Verizon Center. They'll face the Bruins, Flyers and Sabres twice in a schedule that begins at home against Buffalo on Sunday, Sept. 21 and concludes at home against Carolina on Oct. 5 .
Last season the Capitals went 4-0-4 during the preseason but stumbled out of the gates under Adam Oates in the regular season, losing four of their first five games. In Oates' first season behind the bench, the Caps started the season 2-8-1.
They'll hope to reverse that trend under new coach Barry Trotz, who begins his first season in Washington after 16 years in Nashville.
On Saturday the Caps are expected to announce their home opener and on Sunday they are expected to release their full NHL schedule, including their Jan. 1 opponent in the 2015 Winter Classic.
There has been plenty of speculation on which opponent that will be, with the Flyers and Bruins as two strong possibilities.
The Caps are not expected to announce the venue for the Winter Classic until later this summer, but Nats Park remains the heavy favorite.
