The Capitals announced Monday that at least 30 former players will take part in a team alumni game at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.
The game marks the unofficial start to the team’s annual convention weekend which culminates with the Capitals Convention itself on Saturday Sept. 21 from the Washington Convention Center.
Capitals head coach Adam Oates is among those expected to participate in the Capitals Alumni Game along with fellow Hall of Fame members Mike Gartner and Rod Langway.
As was the case in 2011, the Capitals Alumni Game will feature ‘Team Langway’ facing off against ‘Team [Craig] Laughlin’. Former All-Stars Peter Bondra, Dennis Maruk and Olie Kolzig are also scheduled to participate as well as former Cap and assistant coach Calle Johansson.
The 2011 Capitals Alumni Game was played before a capacity crowd at KCI and even included a fight between former teammates Kevin Kaminski and Alan May (both are scheduled to play again next month). Kaminski in fact finished with a Gordie Howe hat-trick in the 2011 alumni game and was named the game’s No.1 star.
Other former players expected to take part in this year’s game are Greg Adams, Nelson Burton, Anson Carter, John Druce, Alan Hangsleben, Yvon Labre, Gord Lane, Paul Mulvey, Pat Peake, Errol Rausse, Pat Ribble, Gary Rissling, Ken Sabourin, Reggie Savage, Neil Sheehy, Bryan Watson, Brendan Witt and Bernie Wolfe. Additional participants will be announced at a later date.
Tickets are $10 with all proceeds benefiting Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation. You must be a Caps Convention ticket holder to purchase Capitals Alumni Game tickets. Tickets go on sale Aug. 26 at 10 a.m. on WashingtonCapitals.com and are limited and sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. A convention ticket does not guarantee an alumni game ticket.
