As Dwayne De Rosario netted the game-winner in DC United's shutout of the Colorado Rapids Wednesday night, some fellow Washington pros were on hand to take in the 2-0 win.
Washington Capitals Brooks Laich, John Carlson, Mathieu Perreault and Joel Ward --a former classmate of De Rosario in their hometown of Scarborough, Ontario-- made a visit to the DCU dressing room to congratulate the guys after the match.
DC United's equipment guys even made up personalized United jerseys so the Caps could sport the black and red for the evening.
Ward, attending his first MLS match, was impressed by the physicality of the game --something he admitted he was surprised to see in soccer. But what caught his attention most was the passion of the 11,000 fans in attendance Wednesday night, specifically the perpetually singing, jumping and flag-waving Barra Brava.
"We kept staring over --we kind of wanted to jump in there and see what was going on," Ward laughed. "That was cool to see."
Ward assured this would not be their last United match of the season. Perhaps a few Caps players will be sited Saturday rocking the bleachers of sections 135-138 as DCU looks to take another three points from Toronto.
