If the Capitals are to overcome a four point deficit and somehow clinch a seventh straight playoff berth, they may be forced to do so without their most experienced defenseman.

Mike Green did not practice Monday, just two days after he suffered an upper body injury in Washington’s 4-3 shootout win against the New York Islanders. Green skated just 7:38 Saturday and did not play after the first period. Adam Oates told reporters Saturday that Green would be reevaluated by team doctors Monday.

Defensemen Jack Hillen and Patrick Wey also did not practice Monday, while forward Dustin Penner, who missed Saturday’s game with an upper body injury, rotated on a fourth line with Aaron Volpatti, Jay Beagle and Tom Wilson.
