Caps rookies ready to roll

Now that Patrick Kane, Ryan Miller and the rest of the U.S. Olympic team hopefuls have vacated Kettler Capitals Iceplex, it’s time for the Caps’ rookies to take over the locker room.

On Thursday the Caps announced their rookie camp schedule, which is free and open to the public.

The camp, which will feature top prospects Tom Wilson, Andre Burakovsky and Nate Schmidt, will begin on Thursday, Sept. 5 and run through Monday, Sept. 9, when the Caps’ rookies will take on the Flyers’ rookies at 3 p.m. at Kettler.

Capitals veterans are scheduled to report on Thursday, Sept. 12. Among the players already in town and skating at Kettler are center Nicklas Backstrom, right wing Troy Brouwer, center/winger Jay Beagle and goaltender Michal Neuvirth.

Thursday, Sept. 5: 10 a.m.-11 a.m. On-ice testing

                                  11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Practice

Friday, Sept. 6: 10 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. Practice

Saturday, Sept. 7: 10 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. Practice

Sunday, Sept. 8: 10 a.m. – 11:15 a.m Practice

Monday, Sept. 9: 3 p.m. Rookie Game vs. Philadelphia Flyers
