Back in July, when Barry Trotz and his new coaching staff had the chance to conduct their first summer development camp, the emphasis was the importance of players doing all the little things required to someday make it to the pro level.

When the Caps’ rookies hit the ice on Thursday, Sept. 11, the focus and the competition will be ramped up for the six-day camp that will conclude with a rookie scrimmage game between the Caps and Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 3 p.m. at the Flyers’ training facility in Voorhees, N.J.

All of the Caps’ on-ice workouts will take place at Kettler Capitals Iceplex and are open to the public free of charge. A handful of those rookies will be asked to stick around for the start of the Capitals’ training camp for veterans, beginning on Friday, Sept. 19.

Among the Caps rookies scheduled to participate in next week’s camp are forwards Andre Burakovsky, Jakub Vrana and Chandler Stephenson and goaltender Pheonix Copley. A complete rookie roster will be released at a later date.

Burakovsky. 19, stands the best chance of making the Capitals’ 2014-15 roster. As a player drafted from Sweden he is eligible to play for the Capitals or the AHL Hershey Bears, as well as his junior team, the Erie [Pa.] Otters.
