Three days after making his NHL debut against the Nashville Predators, Capitals defenseman Patrick Wey has been re-assigned to the AHL Hershey Bears.

Wey, 22, logged 13:36 of ice time in Saturday night’s win over the Predators, registering one shot and one hit. He was a healthy scratch for Sunday night’s game in New York, replaced by Steve Oleksy, who responded with a goal and an assist.

Wey’s reassignment leaves the Caps with seven healthy defensemen – John Carlson, Karl Alzner, Mike Green, Dmitry Orlov, Nate Schmidt, Oleksy and Alex Urbom. John Erskine [knee] will miss his 20th straight game tonight but he has been ramping up his on-ice workouts in recent days.

Wey appeared in seven games with Hershey this season, registering one goal and two assists and eight penalty minutes. He began the season with the Reading Royals (ECHL), tallying three assists in eight games.

What are your thoughts on the Caps’ defense? Should the Caps hold onto Orlov, whose agent asked for a trade two weeks ago?
