Capitals right wing Joey Crabb has cleared NHL waivers and has been assigned to the AHL Hershey Bears.
Crabb was placed on waivers on Friday at noon, along with Rangers center Jeff Halpern, Carolina’s Zach Boychuk and Tampa’s Brian Lee. Halpern, who captained the Capitals from 2005 through 2008, was claimed by the Montreal Canadiens.
Crabb was placed on waivers to make room for the return of defenseman Mike Green, who came off the injured reserve list Thursday after missing 10 games with a groin injury.
In 26 games for the Capitals this season Crabb has two goals and is a minus-1 with eight penalty minutes. By assigning him to Hershey the Capitals remove $900,000 of Crabb’s $950,000 salary from their cap, leaving them with about $7.6 million in cap space.
