After the Flyers' second consecutive 0-3 start to a season -- and just their fourth in franchise history -- the team has elected to fire head coach Peter Laviolette.
Assistant coach Craig Berube will replace him.
General manager Paul Holmgren and Comcast-Spectacor president Peter Luukko announced the decision in a press conference late Monday morning.
The 2013-14 season has gotten off to a very similar start to the lockout-shortened year that preceded it. Despite offseason personnel upgrades the likes of center Vinny Lecavalier and defenseman Mark Streit, the Flyers' problems continued -- they struggled in breakouts, they struggled in all elements of even-strength play, they struggled to score. Their defense, just like last season, looked constantly out of sync.
