Looking for a low-risk, high-yield investment that takes just five months to mature?
The website Bovada came out with its Stanley Cup odds on Monday and guess who their favorite is to win the Stanley Cup?
Hint: Their captain might be the most vilified player in the D.C. region.
That’s right, Caps fans. Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins are Bovada’s choice to win it all this season with odds of 8-1.
The Pens are followed by the New York Rangers [17-2], Vancouver Canucks [9-1], Los Angeles Kings [21-1] and Philadelphia Flyers [12-1].
As for Alex Ovechkin and those beloved Capitals, Bovada isn’t buying the whole Adam Oates-Mike Ribeiro-Braden Holtby thing. The Caps are listed at 22-1 odds, which ranks 13th on the list of NHL teams.
If you broke those odds down to conferences, the Caps would rank sixth in the East behind the Pens, Rangers, Flyers, Bruins and Hurricanes.
If you’re looking to hit the jackpot, place your Monopoly money on those Columbus Blue Jackets, who come in at 100-1 odds.
How do you feel about those odds and where do the Caps fall on your list? More importantly, do you think winning the Stanley Cup in a shortened season will hold any less value in the minds of hockey purists?
