Judging from the Capitals’ morning skate on Monday, the Evgeny Kuznetsov era will begin on a fourth line with Jay Beagle and Tom Wilson tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

In his first practice with Capitals teammates after signing his first NHL contract on Saturday, Kuznetsov practiced on a fourth line, with the possibility of moving up during tonight’s game.

There was some speculation that Kuznetsov would make his Capitals debut on a top line with Nicklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin, but with Brooks Laich not participating in the morning skate, left wing Aaron Volpatti was in that spot, possibly as a placeholder for Laich.

The Caps’ other lines had center Marcus Johansson between left wing Dustin Penner and right wing Troy Brouwer; and Eric Fehr between Jason Chimera and Joel Ward.

It appears as though Jaroslav Halak, who is 3-1-0 lifetime against the Penguins with a 2.17 GAA, is likely to get the start over Braden Holtby, who is 0-4-0 against the Pens with a 4.37 GAA.
