NBC hockey analyst Pierre McGuire is not going to hedge bets on who will win Game 7 between the Capitals and Boston Bruins Wednesday night at TD Garden, but he will say this:
The Capitals are better prepared for playoff hockey than at any other time he has seen them.
Washington has pushed back, McGuire said.
Ive done all the series theyve been eliminated since 2008, but if they play this way they have a chance to win, he said.
McGuire said the Capitals willingness to block shots, backcheck and establish a strong forecheck has given them an identity they lacked in recent years. In short, theyve become a hard team to play against.
The matchup is not great for them because theyve got to do it against Zdeno Chara and Dennis Seidenberg and Tim Thomas, McGuire said. But if you had this team playing this way against Montreal two years ago or playing against Philadelphia four years ago, then it might have been different. Now theyre starting to get on track as far as playing playoff hockey.
